Volunteer Q & A
Q: How do I get started?
A: You can download and fill out our liability wavier and bring it with you anytime we are open. In most cases you can get started the same day! We also have copies of the wavier in the office that you can fill out when you get there.
Q: Do I have to have prior experience working with animals to volunteer?
A: No! There is no special experience required to volunteer! Our staff and current volunteers can give you an orientation on animal handling and procedures at our shelter. All you need to start is a willingness to give our great animals the TLC they deserve!
Q: Do I have to schedule a volunteer shift?
A: We do not require that you schedule a specific time to volunteer. However, if you have a group that is larger than 5 people we ask that you contact the volunteer coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or 405-377-1701 to schedule a time for your group to come together.
Q: Can I bring my children to volunteer if they are under 18 years of age?
A: Yes, please! We welcome children of all ages at our shelter and love to see them interact with our animals. It is a good way for us to keep our animals socialized for potential adopters. Parents or guardians DO have to be present the entire time the child volunteers and must sign a liability form on behalf of the child.
Q: Can my group schedule a large event at the shelter such as date nights or coke dates?
A: Due to the large number of requests we receive each year for onsite student activities, we have put in place guidelines to help our organization run more efficiently and ensure your group’s goals are achieved during your visit to our shelter.
